If you know us at all, you know most of our tours are centered around the heart of Austin. We love the downtown area and it has so much to offer as far as tasty treats, savory sips and iconic history, but there are so many other places in Austin worth checking out on your own!
It’s also so important to support local businesses, from the heart of Austin to the tip of the suburbs around it.
So we’re going to share our five favorite Austin-area breweries that are located outside of the downtown area.
Whitestone Brewery
This little brewery is located in a small shopping center in Cedar Park. But don’t let the area fool you, these guys brew a mean beer and host several awesome events throughout the week (in a post COVID-19 world.)
Their tap room and patio are currently open and they have posted their COVID-19 guidelines here. If you’re hungry, you’re in luck! Van's Damn Tasty tacos & Ronburguesas is parked on location ready to serve up some saucy snacks!
We recommend the Ronburguesa cheese fries with the Long Gone Blonde
Family Business Beer Company
Located out in Dripping Springs, you might have already heard about this brewery due to one of it’s famous owners (“Days of our Lives” and “Supernatural” star Jensen Ackles.) The atmosphere is always sunny, despite the actual weather outside. Staff are super friendly and helpful for newbies, and can offer great suggestions for the beer connoisseur as well. Currently, they have special instructions for visiting due to COVID-19.
“How it Works: Tables are by reservation only. Outdoor seating only. All food and drinks are ordered and paid for online, using our touchless ordering system. Follow the QR code on your menu to place orders. Need Help? We're here, just call 512-829-4202 and one of our team will guide you through the process. Your drinks are ready immediately under your order name. They’ll be at the Bar Window. You will receive a text when your food is ready. Food is picked up at the Pizza Kitchen.” Sounds easy enough!
We suggest trying the Hamilton Pale Ale or the Black is Beautiful Imperial Black Ale.
Bluebonnet Beer Company
Bluebonnet Beer Company is located in Round Rock and is one of the local breweries that stepped up to make hand sanitizer earlier this year. They were established in 2013 and run by the husband and wife team of David and Clare Hulama. This brewery was a 10-year dream in the making for the couple and you can tell that very careful thought has gone into everything they do.
Hungry? They knew you would be. On site is the Governor's Kitchen. We suggest trying the Oktoberfest Beer Brat, and you can’t go wrong with the Cream Ale to assist with that meat!
The Brewtorium
This north Austin brewery quickly made a name for itself in the industry. They offer a variety of beverages, including house brewed beer, ciders, mead and wine. They literally have something for everyone.
In a post-COVID-19 world, they hosted awesome events, so keep an eye on their calendar for when events will return. Speaking of COVID-19 (because we haven't heard enough about it yet, right?) they have a specific way of operating during the pandemic to keep patrons and staff safe. Check out that information here.
We suggest the Brewtorium Mac n' Beer Cheese paired with the Bock Bock Weiz. If you just want something to sip, try the My Pomona.
Thirsty Planet Brewing
We know you’ve seen the goat all around Austin. (The Amber Ale.) Thirsty Planet Brewing is located on South Congress and was established in 2010. They are currently planning on opening a facility in south Austin! You can support this damn fine brewery by purchasing their beer at retailers all over the city.
We suggest the Amber Ale (it’s popular for a reason!) or their new seasonal, Dumpster Fire, which can be found at some H-E-B’s or at the brewery.
Austin has the BEST brewery scene
There are so many other breweries around Austin worth checking out, and it’s vital right now that we support this industry and the service industry in general. Take a tour with us and let us show you why Austin has the best brewery scene. Or, create a tour of your own and check out what hidden gems are further outside the city limits!
