Things to do in Austin before Summer is Over
Our tours might be in hiatus for the month of August, (you’re welcome, because we’ve had way too many days over 100 degrees here lately) but that doesn’t mean that your summer fun in Austin has to be on hiatus too! Here are some things to do in Austin this summer to tide you over until our tours are up and running again:
Keep Austin Cool
The best way to stay cool in the Texas heat is to visit some of Austin’s favorite swimming holes!
Jacob’s Well is a perennial karstic spring in the Texas Hill Country flowing from the bed of Cypress Creek, located northwest of Wimberley. The well is fed by the Trinity Aquifer. Make sure to plan ahead though; reservations are required. Swimming is allowed from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and all swimmers get two hours per reservation.
Barton Springs Municipal Pool is a three-acre spring-fed pool surrounded by the natural and famous greenbelt. The pool is kid-friendly and has a max depth of 18 feet on the opposite end. It has a nice temperature of approximately 70 degrees year-round.
Hamilton Pool is a uniquely magical place that was formed when the dome of an underground river collapsed, leaving a ring of waterfalls and a breathtaking natural swimming pool. It’s such a beautiful and popular spot that access is now by reservation only.
Feel like surfing but discouraged because of our location? Not to worry! NLand Surf Park has you covered! Not only do they offer surfing in their 14-acre man-made surf lagoon, but every week, they offer live music, yoga on the shore and more to keep you cool and entertained!
Keep Austin Unique
Want to do something truly unique that just screams “Texas?” Play chicken shit bingo at the Little Longhorn Saloon. Yes, you read that right. Chicken shit bingo.
You should also check out drag horror show “Die Felicia.” We’re just gonna leave it at that and let you see for yourself what it’s all about. Visit the Facebook page to see when the next show is. (Who doesn’t love a little mystery?)
Keep Austin Out of the Sun
If you’d rather just avoid the hot, humid air completely, Austin offers a host of indoor fun as well!
One of our favorite things to do in Austin is country dance. You can’t visit this great city without learning how to two-step or line dance. The best country dance hall you can visit in Austin is the Broken Spoke. Dancers young and old gather to boot-scoot and boogy together under one roof. It’s truly a great time!
A visit to the Longhorn Caverns will definitely get out of the sun...in fact, it’ll get you into dark, damp cave. But don’t be afraid! You’ll have a tour guide taking you in and out of the tunnels under this awesome city!
